weddings!

Weddings, they can either be the best day of your life or you're so stressed about every last detail that you don't even realize that the day has flown by.
I've been involved in both kinds, either as an attendant or just making the floral arrangements. I LOVE helping couples plan and create their special day perfect, well at least perfect flower wise, I cant help with late catering crews or DJs even though I  have been asked (trust me you don't want my cooking or musical selections)
Most brides/grooms have a pretty good idea as to what they want in the way of flowers or at least colours ( thanks Pinterest! also follow us on Pinterest Acanthus floral ) Seasons usually dictate what colours people want, but they don't have to. If you love oranges and yellows, but are getting hitched in June then have yellow orange colour scheme. Its all about what you love, the only exception is flowers being in season. Sure I can get you peonies all year round, but they will cost about as much as your wedding gown in the off season.
Now that I have rambled on, If you or anyone you know is

In the beginning......

A lot of people ask me what made me choose this as my career, and I like to think that this " career" chose me. I don't even think of it as being job ( at least not anymore ) Plants and flowers have always been a big interest of mine ever since I was a little kid ( which was a long time ago, even if I still look like I'm 15).

My parents and paternal grandmother always had big gardens, I can remember going out to the nurseries picking out veggie plants and different types of annuals. Usually my sister and I would pick out the brightest and weirdest colour combinations and Mom and Dad would just go with it.
My Dad being the more adventurous type, would always pick out a new type of vegetable plant that we hadn't tried growing before. Some years we would have little to no luck with them and other years we would be laden with not most useful of veg ( what do you do with tons of banana peppers?)

When ever my Grandmother would visit she would always bring a box or 2 of some perennials that she had divided in her garden. I would help her plant them in one of our flowers beds, we would divide some of my parents plants and do a " trade" She was also the one who got me so interested in house plants and tropicals, I received my first indoor plants from her, a Croton, a Prayer plant ( maranta) and a Cylclamen ( all still plants I love....except crotons. No offence to croton lovers, they just don't do it for me).
Basically I have been hooked since then ( best birthday ever was when my parents bought me like 10 houseplants, weird choice for a regular 15 year old, but if you know me you know I'm not that regular) , growing  a big collection and always trying to find and grow something different annoying roomates and my ex-husband along the way with having basically whole rooms devoted to just my house plants, and having to move them, once even in January ( trying to fit a 10' Norfolk pine into a mini-van is not as easy as it sounds).

So thats it really, a quick ramble on me and how it all began, and why my house and store are basically tropical rain forests....... I'm Jamie and I'm addicted to plants ( there must be a plant lovers anonymous meeting somewhere)
